Homemade Hair Rinses

Lemon juice added to the rinsing water, will brighten blonde hair, while 2 tbsp of cider vinegar with add gloss and body to any colour hair.

Other hair rinses can be made to treat a variety of hair problems. First you must make an infusion by placing 2 tbsp of fresh herb in a china or glass bowl. Fresh herbs are best, but if you are using dried herbs remember they are stronger so you will need to halve the amount required for fresh herbs. Add 600 ml boiling water, cover and leave to steep for three hours. The longer the herbs steep the longer the infusion. Strain before using. Make infusions with the following herbs for the specific uses as listed -

  • Southernwood to combat grease
  • Nettle to stimulate hair growth
  • Rosemary to prevent static
  • Lavender to soothe a tight scalp

Make a parsley hair tonic by blending a large handful of parsley aprings and 2 tbsp water in a food processor until well pureed. Apply to the scalp, cover with a shower cap, and leave for an hour before rinsing thoroughly.
