Classifications of Diabetes
Diabetes is divided into three different types namely; type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes.
Type1 - Is also known as juvenile onset diabetes or IDDM (insulin dependent diabetes mellitus). With this type of diabetes, the pancreas lacks of the insulin-producing beta cells. It is more likely to be acquired by men than by women.
Type2 - This type is more of genetic type of diabetes. This runs within a family and is more common than type1 diabetes.
Gestational diabetes occurs at the fifth month of pregnancy up to the day of delivery. Women who acquire this type of diabetes are more prone to type2 diabetes in the latter part of their lives.
